LibreTexts (libretexts.org) is a legitimate, well-established open educational resource (OER) platform founded in 2008 by UC Davis chemist Delmar Larsen. It hosts peer-reviewed, openly-licensed textbooks and educational materials across STEM and humanities disciplines, developed and maintained by faculty and subject-matter experts. The platform has institutional backing, significant adoption across universities, and clear academic governance. However, LibreTexts is fundamentally an educational content repository, not a news source—it does not produce journalism or breaking news reporting. However, these are academic publishing standards, not journalism standards. There is no corrections policy for news errors, no editorial independence statement regarding political coverage (because it produces no news), and no separation of news and opinion (because it is not a news organization).

Fact-checking

LibreTexts does not engage in news fact-checking. Its content verification model is academic peer review (textbook authors vetted by discipline experts), not journalistic fact-checking. No third-party fact-checker ratings (MBFC, Ad Fontes, PolitiFact, etc.) have evaluated LibreTexts because it is not a news source. Educational content accuracy is maintained through contributor expertise and editorial curation, not real-time fact-checking of claims.
